February 2002

Since day one, we have been talking about what will we do after the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days - San Francisco 2002 to inspire us to keep walking. We have been talking lots about other events, marathons?!?! While we were on vacation in February, we had lots of time in the car to talk about what would be next. We both agreed we wanted to keep on walking; it feels good and we like it. What would we choose to keep the spirit alive in us. We decided that a marathon could be fun. When we got back from vacation, Katie started to search the web for marathons that not only welcomed walkers but encouraged them. She found the San Diego marathon, they encourage walkers! Next thing you know we are signed up for the January 2003 San Diego marathon (http://www.sdmarathon.com). We both enjoy the walks very much, but we will soon be walking six, eight or ten hours a day on Saturdays and Sundays. Training for an event like the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days - San Francisco 2002 requires that you walk long days back to back. After the event, it will be nice to drop back down to shorter weekend walks. The nice thing about training for the marathon is that we will not need to do two long days back to back. We will still walk four days a week with only one long day.
