"We are Athletes"
Katie is walking in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days - San Francisco 2002 Walk to help raise funds for breast cancer research and early detection. Three days, 60 miles, Katie is an athlete. This page is dedicated to tracking her training for the three day walk. Her training partner is her husband Bob, he is not walking in the event but he is training too, why? True love!
The Walk was on 12, 13, and 14 July 2002
We are Athletes
ath·lete noun
A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility,
and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially
those performed in competitive contexts.
When most people think of an athlete they do not see someone who looks like we do. They think of thin lean runners or thick mean football players. But, We are Athletes. We are training to walk 20 miles-a-day for three days in a row. A runner, in a marathon, might run 26 miles in 2 or 3 hours, but do they have the strength to do it again the next day, and the day after that. Most marathon runners take 2, 3, or 4 days (or a week or more) off after an event to recuperate and let their bodies recover. Avon 3-Day Walkers do not have that luxury, they go for 20 miles-a-day, for three days in a row. We are Athletes.
